About the event
Lunatraktors is a collaboration between artist, choreographer and percussionist Carli Jefferson (she/her), and artist, vocalist and researcher Dr Clair Le Couteur (they/them). The project started in 2017 with a post-apocalyptic question: what's left when we've lost everything? Stripping folk traditions down to the bare bones before reanimating them in strange new forms, Lunatraktors work across sound, text, image, performance, installation, video, costume, publications, teaching and research-based practice. Lunatraktors regularly perform at theatres and festivals, and produce new works commissioned by artists, galleries and heritage organisations, including the V&A, Medway Museums, the British Museum, Compton Verney, Sunny Bank Mills, Waterford Museum and Gallery, Limerick City Gallery and the National Trust.
The duo’s 'broken folk' performance style is rooted in the somatic materiality of sound: Le Couteur’s 3+ octave overtone singing and the hybrid of tap dance, flamenco and body percussion that Jefferson developed after touring with STOMP (2001–2004). A double act…
